The Indulgent Adventurer

Blog

Born in Inverness in the north of Scotland, I spent my early childhood in Nigeria which I believe explains where I got my love of travel, different cultures and adventure.

In my late teens and early twenties I embraced the opportunity to venture forth though it was always on a severe budget. It was a question of severe budget or no travel.

I studied hard and worked very hard for over 30 years. My passion for travel and sport never left me but the pressures of a demanding job left little time to indulge in adventures. I was fortunate that work took me to live and work in France, Germany and Norway. The fruits of my working life now permit a few luxuries.

My blog is for those people who crave adventure, new places to explore, exciting experiences and all kind of learnings. It is for people who enjoy challenging themselves physically and practically. It is for people who enjoy sport, nature, and are intrigued by exploring a more spiritual path. And it is for people who are comfortable in the belief that, just because you enjoy the good things in life, this doesn’t mean you are not authentic in your travel and cultural activities.

I love the good things in life, I enjoy luxury and being pampered and I embrace delicious food and wine. Some may say that to be a real traveller or adventurer, hardship is essential. For some it may be. Just as for some people wealth and spirituality cannot go hand in hand. Not for me. My motto is that I adore adventure, adore travel and I want to do it in style. Join me to read some of my adventures over the past few years.

Sailing the high seas on Queen Mary 2

We were in the departure lounge at Southampton Port with our fingers crossed that we would have a negative test from the lateral flow we had to do in the car park. There had been so many changes to travel announced by various governments in the run up to our trip, and...

The Datai – Langkawi, Malaysia

The Datai has to be one of my favourite hotels in the world.  It nestles in the treetops on the beautiful island of Langkawi, Malaysia. Luxurious it certainly is.  But it is not brash, ostentatious, glitzy  or pretentious.   At its heart are...
