September 2019
My husband and I both enjoy being by the sea and on the sea. We have also spent much of our holiday time in the south of Spain where, on a clear day, the Moroccan coast is often visible. We both enjoy relaxing on a boat and had previously enjoyed a half day trip on the beautiful Rodman Motor Yacht La Palomas, captained and crewed by Sergio and his lovely wife Yolanda.
The particular trip which we had planned was to take us from Puerto Banus via Gibraltar, past Ceuta and onto the Moroccan mainland where we moored at Marina Smir in Tetouan. Apparently this is considered the jewel in the crown of the Meditteranean ports and it didn’t disappoint. Once on the Moroccan mainland, Sergio had arranged for us to be shown around by an excellent guide. Our plan was also to do a little bit of shopping for rugs and other artefacts.
The weather was beautiful and it was interesting to see both Spain and Gibraltar from the sea.
Whether it was luck or careful planning from Sergio, the sea was absolutely teeming with wildlife. We were accompanied for quite a long way by pods of dolphins who seemed to delight in playing around the bow of the boat. In fact, we saw several pods of dolphins, a whale, turtles, flying fish and so much more.
The overnight stay in Morocco was delightful with our excellent guide taking us to some unusual and very authentic places.
Staying overnight on board Las Palomas was also a very enjoyable experience. Sergio and Yolanda were so hospitable and delicious food and drinks were always on hand.
A short trip of just one and half days but we felt we had really packed a lot in and had enjoyed a rather luxurious time. I felt quite spoilt and can’t wait to do another trip this summer.
