Kayaking from Greenwich to Battersea
July 2022

Our day started well with a delicious lunch at the Enderby House restaurant.  Then it was to the beach in Greenwich, a briefing on the double kayaks and some information on the routing and timings of our trip.

The kayaks were very comfortable, stable and easy to steer.  And soon we were off.

It was fascinating to see all the iconic sights from so low down on the river.

Our group of 10 people was well managed by Harry and Eric with Harry providing a very interesting commentary along the way plus taking lots of photos.  The route took us past the Cutty Sark, The Prospect of Whitby, (where Steve spent many a happy hour as a student in London many years ago), to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.  Three miles accomplished, another 8 to go.  We passed the London Eye and kayaked on to the Houses of Parliament.  So many beautiful bridges.  Being so low down in the water and in a kayak emphasises how much traffic is on the water and how busy it is.

With large launches racing along the river, the water does get very choppy at certain points.  Having said that, we didn’t feel nervous at any point which is a testament to the stability of the kayaks.

By mile 8 we were getting a bit tired and by mile 11 we were quite exhausted.

Overall this was a fabulous experience and one that we would highly recommend.
